Accessibility

Our goal is WCAG 2.2 AA. The visual canvas is not the only way to work: every map has a full, synchronised outline editor.

What we support

  • Outline editor. The Outline panel is an ARIA tree. Screen readers announce each topic’s text, level, position and whether it is expanded or selected. You can create, rename, indent, outdent, reorder, collapse and delete topics there; changes appear on the canvas immediately.
  • Keyboard. Every action is available from the keyboard, the toolbar or the command palette (Ctrl/⌘+K). Moving topics does not require dragging. Shortcut list
  • Announcements. Changes such as “Added topic”, “Deleted 3 topics” or “Undid move” are announced through a live region.
  • Contrast. A High contrast map theme is included; text on coloured topics automatically switches between light and dark for legibility.
  • Not colour alone. Tasks show ☐/☑, priorities show P1–P4, and topic types show a text label.
  • Motion. Animations are disabled when your system asks for reduced motion.
  • Exports. HTML exports include an accessible outline; SVG exports include a title.
  • Input methods. Shortcuts are suppressed during IME composition so CJK input is not interrupted.

Known limitations

  • The drawing canvas itself is hidden from screen readers in favour of the outline, which carries the same information.
  • Relationship lines between topics are listed in the inspector for the selected topic but are not yet navigable from the outline.
  • Right-to-left map layouts are not mirrored automatically; RTL text renders correctly inside topics.
  • We have not yet completed a full audit with NVDA, VoiceOver and TalkBack. We welcome reports.
