Markdown to mind map
Headings become branches, lists become sub-topics and paragraphs become notes. Links and checkboxes come along. Export back to Markdown any time.
How to use it
- Paste Markdown or open a .md file.
- Review the map — fenced code blocks are kept as notes, never parsed as headings.
- Open in the editor to keep working, or download PNG, SVG, PDF or Markdown.
Mapping rules
A single top-level heading becomes the central topic; otherwise the document title (from front matter) or “Imported outline” is used. Each deeper heading nests under the nearest shallower one. Bulleted and numbered lists nest by indentation under the current heading.
Text formatting like bold and inline code is reduced to plain text. The first link in a line is kept as the topic’s link. “- [ ]” and “- [x]” become tasks you can tick off. Trailing #tags become topic tags. Paragraphs, quotes and code blocks are attached as notes.
Round trips
Export Markdown from the editor and the hierarchy, order, notes, links, tags and checkboxes are written back. Colours, layout and cross-relationships do not exist in Markdown, and the export dialog tells you so before you download.
FAQ
Does this work with Markmap files?
Yes for the hierarchy: Markmap uses the same headings-and-lists structure. Markmap-specific front matter options are ignored apart from the title.
How deep can headings go?
Six heading levels plus unlimited list nesting. On export, the first three levels are headings and deeper levels become nested bullets.
Can I paste from Obsidian or Notion?
Yes — copy as Markdown and paste. Wiki-links appear as plain text.
