Free Online Mind Map Generator — No Sign-Up

Type a topic, pick a starting structure and keep thinking with the keyboard. Your mind map is saved privately in this browser and exports to PNG, PDF, SVG or Markdown.

Start as:

The starter is a smart template with your topic filled in — not AI-generated facts.

A real map, ready to edit

This example was made in the editor in under a minute: one central topic, five branches, a few details each. Open it and try Tab and Enter.

Three steps to a finished map

  1. 1

    Start

Type a topic and choose a starter — brainstorm, study, project, decision, SWOT, essay, meeting or problem. Or start blank, pick a template, or import notes.

  2. 2

    Grow it

Press Tab for a child and Enter for a sibling. Drag to reorganise, collapse branches, add notes, links, tags, tasks and relationships. Switch between eight layouts.

  3. 3

    Share it

Export a crisp PNG, vector SVG or PDF, print across pages, or download Markdown, OPML and FreeMind to continue elsewhere. Present it branch by branch.

What “private” means here

Your map text, notes, imported files and exports are processed by code running in your browser. There is no account, no server database and no upload endpoint.

The network is used to download the site’s own files (and, in future, optional on-device AI models you choose to install). Like any website, our host sees ordinary request metadata such as your IP address and which page you opened — never your map content.

Maps in browser storage are not encrypted and can be removed if you clear site data. How storage and offline work

Questions

Is it really free?

Yes. Creating, editing and exporting maps is free with no account and no watermark. The site may show unobtrusive ads on articles and template pages — never inside the editor.

Where are my mind maps saved?

In your browser’s own storage (IndexedDB) on this device. They are not uploaded anywhere. Clearing your browser’s site data deletes them, so use “Backup all” in My maps or export a .mindmap.json file regularly.

Can I use it offline?

After one visit while online, the app files are cached by your browser so the editor opens and saves without a connection. Imports and exports also work offline.

Does the “AI” generate my map?

Not in this version. The topic starter fills a structured template with your topic, and Text to mind map uses a local keyword heuristic. Neither invents facts and neither sends text to an AI service. Optional on-device models are planned and will always require your opt-in.

Can I collaborate with others?

There are no shared online links, because we do not store your maps on a server. Share a .mindmap.json file, a PDF/PNG picture, or a self-contained HTML export instead.

Which keyboard shortcuts should I learn first?

Tab adds a child, Enter adds a sibling, F2 edits, Delete removes, and Ctrl/⌘+Z undoes. Press ? in the editor for the full list.
