Mind mapping for brainstorming

Good brainstorming separates generating from judging. Capture first with Enter-Enter-Enter, then cluster by dragging.

  • Typing Enter after each idea adds the next one instantly — no clicking, no breaking flow.
  • Dragging an idea onto another topic re-parents it, so clustering is direct manipulation.
  • The radial layout gives every idea equal visual weight while you are still exploring.
Example: Grow newsletter subscribers

A workflow that works

  1. 1

    Frame

Write the central question as a question: “How might we…?”

  2. 2

    Diverge

Add an “Idea inbox” branch and type ideas quickly, one per Enter.

  3. 3

    Cluster

Create cluster branches and drag ideas into them. Rename clusters as patterns appear.

  4. 4

    Converge

Tag favourites, mark next steps as tasks, and export the result.

Tips

  • Hold Alt while dragging to copy an idea into a second cluster.
  • Search with #tag to see every tagged idea at once.
  • Switch to the logic tree layout to review clusters as a list.
