OPML, FreeMind and Mermaid to mind map
Bring maps and outlines from other tools. Paste the file contents or open the file; the format is detected automatically.
How to use it
- Open a .opml, .mm or .mmd file — or paste its contents.
- Read the conversion notes: what was kept, approximated or dropped.
- Open in the editor and export back to the same format whenever you need.
What each format keeps
OPML: hierarchy, order, notes (the common _note attribute), links and completion state. FreeMind: hierarchy, text and HTML notes, links, folded branches, left/right placement, node colours, known icons as emoji, and arrow links as relationships. Mermaid mindmap: hierarchy and text; node shapes and icons are dropped.

XML files that declare a DOCTYPE or entities are rejected outright, which blocks XML external-entity and “billion laughs” attacks. Links are limited to http, https and mailto. Nothing in an imported file can run code.
FAQ
Can I export back to FreeMind?
Yes. The .mm export includes notes, links, folded state, colours and relationships as arrow links.
What about XMind files?
XMind import is not available yet. Export from XMind as OPML or Markdown and import that.
